Koh Si Chang, often overlooked by tourists and Thais alike in favor of more popular areas near Bangkok such as Koh Larn and Pattaya, Koh Si Chang has a its own unique charm, and the Ocean View Resort is a reflection of that. Way up high on a mountain, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, sits the quant Ocean View Resort, a long-standing resort on the island.

Location and Atmosphere
After taking a TukTuk, winding through the streets of Koh Si Chang, slowly ascending up a large hill, dodging a wild boar, I arrived at in the parking lot. The hotel is located another 100 meters up, and the guest is required to carry their luggage up the steps, towards the hotel.
Up at the top and down a small street, following signs towards the destination sits a little pink hotel with the aptly named sign “The Ocean View Resort”. The hotel’s name is a very accurate predictor of what is about to come.

Rooms and Amenities
After checking in quickly, I made my way to my room for a little rest. The first thing that stands out in the color of the room, a pink explosion, as though designed by a 12-year-old K-Pop fan.
I don’t tend to judge, and honestly, as long as the room has solid WIFI and a comfortable bed, I’m a happy camper. The double bed was comfortable, a medium softness for my aching back, and the Wifi was strong throughout my time at the Ocean View Resort, which was important, as I continued to work throughout my stay.
The amenities were limited. There were not many restaurants in the area and to get some food, one has to walk down the steps, try to obtain a TukTuk or a bike, and continue back into the main street to find the 7-11 there for basic necessities. Keep this in mind before checking in, especially after a weary trip from the mainland.

But Oh MY What a View
I mean its in the name of the resort after all. The view is what makes this hotel exceptional. Outside on the balcony is an absolutely stunning view of the Gulf of Thailand, with two small chairs and a table, perfect for sipping on a beer and reading a good book.
I fought against the heat and spent as much time out on the balcony admiring the view, and reading Bradbury, as I did in the cool air-conditioned room. At night, the sounds of the ocean, some music from other rooms, really create a relaxed and laidback atmosphere. It was definitely the highlight of the stay.

Pricing and Recommendations
For my one night, I paid $35 USD or 1300 baht, which included a standard breakfast consisting of sausage, eggs, toast and instant coffee. I feel that this hotel is targeted towards couples, or singles whom are looking for a retreat and some rejuvenation.
There amenities are limited and it is not an easily accessible hotel, especially if you have a disability. I would highly recommend renting a scooter as TukTuks don’t really venture out that way.
Pros, Cons and Final Thoughts
Pros: A quiet hotel with an absolutely stunning view of the ocean. Solid Internet and a colorful and friendly owner who helped me get a TukTuk to head into town for food.
Cons: If you are looking for the comforts of modern amenities such as a pool, delivery, or restaurants nearby, you’re better off staying closer to the pier on the main road.
Final Thoughts: This is an excellent place to be if you are looking to unwind and rejuvenate. I would hesitate to bring kids here as there really isn’t a pool and it’s not easily accessible to the beach.
But if you are looking to avoid society and all its horrors for a few days, whilst staring out into the vast abyss of the Gulf of Thailand, than buckle up, stretch out and head up the mountain to the Ocean View Resort.
