This video was one of the most serene and tranquil walks that I have ever experienced. From the locals and tourists of Koh Chang swimming in the water as dusk sets in, to people sitting on the beach in peace, watching the sun slowly set on another day. I truly enjoyed filming this video.

Why Kai Bae Beach?

After arriving in Koh Chang, I was talking to some locals and long-term expats getting their insights on the island. One question that inevitably pops up and is often subject to a long-standing debate is where to view the best sunset.

One local told me Lonely Beach, another will chime in that it is White Sand Beach, and the debates continues unabated. With only three days to explore the island, I decided to take up Jean’s advice and head down Kai Bae Beach, nestled into the southwest side of the island. Needless to say, the sunset exceeded my expectations.

How to get to Kai Bae Beach

Kai Bae Beach was not the most accessible beach, as the beach is lined with several small bungalow beach houses for rent. Thankfully, my tuktuk driver was very helpful and guided me to the path through the Kai Bae Beach Resort down to the pier. The pier is clearly visible from the pathway and the beach is left from there. There is a small flight of stone stairs to the get to the white, sandy beach.

Enjoying the Sunset from Kai Bae Beach

Once I reached the pier, I took a couple of photos of the view, which in itself was stunning. There were a couple of local fisherman, poles lazily hanging from the pier, an open can of Leo, chatting without a care in the world. The simple life.

I made my way back to the steps and onto the beach. I decided to walk the beach first to find a scenic spot to start the film. The beach was deserted for the most part, with a few tourists and locals still swimming in the shallow water as the day settled into the night.

I walked about 500 meters to the end of the beach and started filming by a swing hanging from a low-handing branch. People were already sitting on their decks, beers in hand, watching the sun begin to set. It was quiet and calm, with just the occasional laughter coming from kids playing in the water.

Returning to Kai Bae Beach: A Beach like No Other

On top of this walk being one of my most peace and tranquil walks, it was also one of the quickest. The whole walk took me only 20 minutes to complete and the scene felt as though it was set on a different planet.

Normally after a walk, I often question if I will return or if I’ve seen all I had to see. But Kai Bae Beach hit differently. There was such calming ambience about it, and just a collective peacefulness that is difficult to describe. It’s a place I hope to bring all my loved ones to experience at least one time.

Final Thoughts and Appreciations

First of all a big thanks to Jean. This sunset exceeded all my expectations and I feel that anyone who visits will experience the collective calmness and peacefulness that I felt, and hopefully that will be reflected in the video. There are a plethora of mesmerizing beaches with breathtaking sunsets in Thailand, that it’s hard to pick one that will stand out, but Kai Bae beach was up there for me.
