It doesn’t take a marketing genius to conceptualize the idea that opening a California-inspired, smash burger restaurant attached to a marijuana cafe is an absolutely brilliant idea. High above the cafe, overlooking the skyscrapers of On Nut, sits Fat Dad’s Burgers ready to satisfy your munchies.
The Burger Experience at Fat Dads Burgers in Bangkok
The Big Lebowski, the Cohen brother cult classic back in the late 90s introduced me to what would become one of my favorite American burger chains, In-N-Out. And whenever I am in America, after visiting relatives, I tend to drive over in my father-in-law’s ’73 Ford Gran Torino, to the In-N-Out on Radford.
Thankfully here on On Nut, in Bangkok, Fat Dads Burgers have their own unique and succulent twist to the modern American classic. We ordered the classic Fat Dad’s Cheeseburger with Fries (160 Baht) and Sprites (20 Baht / each).
The burger itself was prepared beautifully, with a soft-warm bun and a patty that was seasoned perfectly. The grilled onions and the sauce were evenly portioned throughout the burger, balancing the flavor and the texture.
The fries were crisp to a golden brown and was seasoned perfectly with a side of ketchup for dipping. The baskets with the iconic, American diner, red-checkered waxed paper was a nice touch.
Chill Vibes on the Rooftop. High in the Sky.
Not that high, medium high, actually just six-floors up. The vibe on the sixth floor of Fat Buds, the marijuana cafe flagship store, is a reminiscent of a backyard barbecue in college. Spread out on the roof are picnic tables, plastic chairs and if you are lucky enough, a lounge chair to stretch out in.
The walls are decorated with playful and quirky graffiti. The sweeping views of On Nut from the sixth floor, though not completely expansive as other rooftop restaurants and bars in the city, are still soothing and relaxing. It completes the whole vibe of the Fat Dads Burgers experience.
Final Thoughts: Fat Dad’s Burgers at On Nut in Bangkok
Fat Dad’s Burgers is a brilliant compliment to the Fat Bud’s Marijuana Cafe. As someone, who does not partake in the cannabis lifestyle, but does not judge all the same, I can appreciate the concept.
As for me, I look forward to rolling over again soon to Fat Dads Burgers to enjoy their smash burgers, fries and a cool beverage with a relaxing view of On Nut, high above. Their laid-back atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff and overall relaxing atmosphere was so reminiscent of backyard barbecues in Canada, that it takes me back to a simple time.
